Reasons to love 'Sukitomo'

So basically since i LOOOOVE Hiroki Aiba obviously i'd be aware of the new movie that he starred in that was released in Feb this yr *i think* and yes, i've tried to buy the dvd but alas my allowance isnt enough *sobsob* so basically now i have to wait for the dvd to be released and wait for some kind soul to upload it *torrent/Mu/Youtube* whatever as long as i can watch it *sighs*
so now that i am patiently waiting for that certain kind soul to upload it, i am repeatedly watching the trailer over and over and over again *btw, it's NOT yaoi like 'Boys Love' it's more of flirting around/hinting of shounen-ai* neways, from what i could make out from the lack of english subtitles that are loaded into jap movies, Aiba plays *Yoshiki* who is this really creepy stalker guy who is *cough*attracted*cough* to this guy named *Tomo* played by Saito Takumi *is that how you spell his name??* who is totally hot by the way and plays this seme-ish boxer guy who apparently is REEEEALLY good and so Yoshiki is attracted to him and takes ALOT *and i mean A LOT* of pics of him and even gets them DEVELOPED !!! *shrieks* (most of the pics are close-ups of Tomo while boxing and he's all sweaty and wearing a sleeveless shirts and all that although i might have preferred him shirtless cos he is HOT !!! but i guess if they dont really want to show him shirtless but prefer to just show him in his sleeveless shirt 'revealing' those oh-so fabulous muscles that are to DIEE for *shrieks* *drools*) oh, right, getting back to the topics. right, neways, after Tomo's practice *with Yoshiki watching/taking photographs by the side*, Yoshiki talks to a couple of the guys from club who bug him about always taking pictures of Tomo. He responds with something along the lines of how he'll photograph them, too, when they get that good.Anyway, he goes to give Tomo a bottled water and a towel of love... and then Tomo's jealous stepsister *who apparently likes him and i dont really get whats with guys with stepsisters that like them so much, i mean sure they arent blood related, but STILL are siblings and cant they just *admire* them from a faraway point and not interrupt when their stepbros are flirting with other guys? seriously, cant there be any fluffy, smexy, lemon-ey shounen-ai in this world without people having to interrupt?* neways, Tomo's jealous stepsister *whose name i still cant quite figure out* interrupts and sticks her meddling middle-school face in the way *BL fangirls let out an angry hiss including me^^* *btw, BL stands for Boys Love for those who arent familiar with jap guys who are straight acting as gays* so then Yoshiki gets all grumpy and tells Tomo that he's going home, shuffling out the door in a total sulk. Tomo then promises to buy him food if he comes along and all is well again. Ohhh Yoshiki. So, cut to after dinner, everyone strolling along on their way home, chitchatting about random stuff like how Tomo is awesome and Yoshiki doesn't have any family, or at least doesn't live with them. Anyway. Basically this conversation is a segue into gratuitous flirting that pisses off Misao *Aiba fangirls go all "yay!" around this point and are still mad about him being jilted in the previous scene**oh, right i think thats Tomo's stepsister's name* Misao sulks here btw. Way to impress your bro with your maturity Misao lets see how that works out for you. But soon, shock! A mad motorist nearly plows down Yoshiki! Tomo jumps to save him from almost certain death, or at least mad bruising! Honestly, where do these people live, where motorists just decide "Oh, that other dude will save him, no need to slow down or anything" when faced with pedestrians in their wake? Remind me never to walk there. Anyway, this is seriously my favourite part of the show cos you can see a shot of Takumi over Aiba *shrieks**and yes, apparently Takumi plays the seme in this movie again* and remind me to post that pic somewhere in my friendster later on. Yoshiki is alright (except for being embarassingly turned on, I'm sure XD). Tomo brushes the dirt off Yoshiki (including his ass, seriously who does that?), Misao looks at them like she knows what's going on you two and she ain't gonna stand for it, and they go on their way.Back at home (which is right next door to Tomo's, actually), Yoshiki looks through the pics he took of Tomo at practice and cements himself as a creeper in my books. You can't really tell in these caps but he's all super intense when he looking at them. Then he flashes back to the little incident of the previous scene and gets this goofy-yet-creepy grin on his face.

Next door, Tomo thinks cups are for chicks. No, seriously. When Misao goes to drink from the carton he tells her to get a cup, and when she points out he didn't use one he says that he's a guy so it's okay.Tomo goes off to bathe. Misao obviously wanted some indirect kiss action and is DISPLEASED with the order that she use a cup. Honestly if I were her I'd just do it anyway because who is going to stop her?

    yeah, so next day ~
Arisa n Misao are walking to school and b*tching bout Yoshiki i'm sure and Misao is unhappy cos of the super awesome boy friendship between Yoshiki and Tomo *blekks* and then they spot Yoshiki...with a girl !!! *gasps, Yoshiki is two-timing !!!* When the girls ask him about it, though, he tells them she's just a friend. Seeing as how he drops her like a hot potato to get over to see Tomo practice, one assumes that this is accurate.More practice, more hot sexy sweaty Tomokazu, more Yoshiki taking entirely too many pictures. This seems to be about an average day for these guys. Misao and Arisa giggle in the corner a bit and this guy tells them to shut up, thus becoming my hero for a little while. Tomo stays late practicing while Yoshiki looks on at him *i think he's stopped taking pictures at this point probably cos it's too dark. either that or his camera ran out of film *hahas** Determined to win Tomo's love and also be a good friend by supporting his boxing endevours, Yoshiki stays up late to plan a menu that I suppose is nutritionally balanced to help him win his next match. Way to a man's heart and all that. The following day, after Tomo's completed his run, Yoshiki gives him the menu. The title reads something along the lines of "Sure-win! Strengthening meal menu".Tomo is touched by the thoughtfulness, and then Yoshiki makes fun of him for being touched and Tomo denies it and it is good times. Tomo says that he's going to retire pretty soon, since he's a third year already, so he wants to win no matter what! Yoshiki assures him that it'll be no prob. He also promises free food if he wins. Why does so much of this movie revolve around food?

Misao and Arisa are doing homework and looking up recipes and talking. Arisa says something about Yoshiki and Misao warns her not to say his name around her because she's sick of hearing about him*biatch !!!* Then basically she talks about how Tomo has been there for her since she was little and kinda admits her love for him.Awwww I'd feel bad for her if she didn't act like such a freakin spaz all the time. Children. Anyway, now she's doing Tomo's laundry, and there's the classic hold-his-clothes-oh-they've-been-right-next-to-his-skin shot that seems so popular in shoujo. Ohhhh teenagers. While she's putting away Tomo's clothes, she spies something on the desk! OH NOES IT IS THE MEAL SCHEDULE FEEL HER BURN WITH JEALOUSY~ So of course she takes it, and when Tomo gets back to his room he searches madly for it but TO NO AVAIL. Next day at practice Tomo gets a text mesage from Misao telling him to hurry home 'cos she's making him dinner tonight. Hmmm Tomo I wonder who might have taken that menu you had and done away with it so she could make you food herself. Obvious much? Tomo tells Yoshiki that he lost the menu. Yoshiki is not too worried since he can just print off another one, but then Tomo rather awkwardly tells him that Misao's kinda taking it upon herself to make him meals and... Yoshiki brushes it off but obviously it is not okay and they both look so AWKWARD it's really cute. The coach calls Tomo away and he hands Yoshiki his water bottle. oh, seriously, this part is SOOOO CUUUTE !!!! i mean, really, it's sooo hard to put into words and i am seriously telling you all to watch the movie SPECIALLY for THIS part *oh, and the Takumi jumping Aiba as well *giggles** so, basically, Aiba blushes *kawaii !!!!* and drinks from the water bottle that Tomo drank from as well. i mean, REALLY ,PLEASE watch this part. it seriously represents all the man-pride Aiba has to lose from blushing in the movie and how bloody CUUUTE he looks drinking from it looking embarrased *shrieks*

So another practice scene (seriously there are way too many of those in this movie, I get it he practices a lot let's move on) and then another scene of Yoshiki perving over his Tomo pictures. I gotta hand it to Aiba, he really nails the intense, almost obsessive gaze in these shots. It makes me feel sorry for him being thwarted at every corner AND kinda gives me the creeps at the same time. It's the day of the match! Misao wants to skip class to go watch but Tomo flat-out refuses. haha, Misao, HAHA !!!! Yoshiki, running out of ways to show his super best friend support (and possibly win Tomo's love), goes to a temple to buy a charm to help Tomo in the match. *awwww, thats so sweet, nothing like buying a charm for someone before their boxing match to win his heart* Tomo's really grateful for the charm and says he'll definitely win if he has that. They share a BFF hand-clasp of encouragement!

We see Misao standing in her class with her cell phone out, waiting for news of the match. And soon enough...He won!!!! YAAAAAAY!!!! Celebratory dinner time!!!!!They all dig in and, as usual, Tomo and Yoshiki start flirting joking around in a manner that irritates Misao. Tomo chalks his win up to the charm he got from Yoshiki (who laughs and says it was only 500 yen), which pisses Misao off even more as she testily reminds Tomo that she cooked for him. Oh, the doorbell? Well, Tomo wonders, who could that be?Well, turns out that Misao invited that-girl-whose-name-I-can-never-quite-catch, much to everyone's minor annoyance. Especially Tomo's. I CAN TELL.Misao tries to plant the "they're a couple" seed in her brother's noggin but honestly I don't think he pays much attention, the boy thinks of nothing but boxing. In fact, he shortly announces that he's going to be at training camp this summer. Misao's bummed that she can't go. Yoshiki is also probably secretly bummed. Arisa makes a crack about the beach being romantic. I love her. I wish she were the sister. There is also a minor confrontation over dishes, where Misao won't let Yoshiki help clean up 'cos he's a guest, effectively throwing him out of the like-family element. Ohhh Misao. Yoshiki does some serious emoing in his room afterwards, though whether it is because Misao was being Misao or Tomo is leaving for summer break or both or WHAT, I cannot say.*emo* How could this happen to meeeeeee, I made my mistaaaaakes, got nowhere to ruuuuuuun...

    Ahem.

Yoshiki gets up off his angsting ass and takes a look out the window. Misao just so happens to be standing at the door, contemplating whether to chuck Yoshiki's charm away. Honestly though, it's bright red. Unless some small animal decides to run off with it anyone who looks out the door would be able to see it. WHATEVER in the end she doesn't do it anyway.Time for training camp! I don't know why training camp is at the beach. Maybe their coach is nice? Or thinks it makes for good training montages? Because it kinda does.Aaaand guess who crashed training camp! Because honestly what kind of movie would this be if they didn't?Tomo is all surprised even though he shouldn't be because these guys practically stalk him. Yoshiki basically says he wanted pics of the training camp and Misao... well, she just wanted to come and swears she'll study for her exams the whole time. Tomo is basically okay with it so long as she promises not to have any fun that she won't just goof off the whole time.

SERIOUSLY TOMO THEY'RE KINDA STALKING YOU.

Then more training. *tears out hair* But it is at a beach at sunset this time guys that makes it MORE SPECIALThen fireworks! Yoshiki's friend who is a girl (honestly anyone catch her name it's like Kai-something?) was talking about them at dinner, I guess I forgot to mention. ANYWAY. Pretty much there are fireworks and it is good times and then Tomo shows up and it is better times because Yoshiki and Misao's lives basically relove around him.Tomo has to turn in early, though, because unlike some people he has stuff to do in the morning.
Misao and Yoshiki retire immediately after (surprise surprise) leaving the other two girls on the beach alone. They're hardly fazed, though, which leads me to believe this kinda thing happens a lot. Those two must be hella awesome friends to put up with that. The next morning Tomo falls asleep training on the beach, geez he must be tired to fall asleep on a rock.Misao finds him sometime later and, well, the object of her affection is asleep right in front of her and what does shoujo manga teach us is the best course of action in such a situation?
Of course Tomo wakes up before anything happens. Then he admonishes Misao for being out on the beach when she should be studying, which turns into him basically (from what I can tell becaue they talk really fast in this scene) telling her that he's grateful for her support but they've gotta give each other space and go their seperate ways sometimes etc, and Misao freaks out and kinda half-admits her love only Tomo doesn't get it and she says she hates him and storms off and basically it is just a really big falling-out.Then Yoshiki pops up and tells Tomo that he understands how Misao's feeling because he feels the same way, something like how he's trying hard for the person he cares about but that person doesn't get it, and Tomo really doesn't get it.And basically Yoshiki wanders off sadly and Tomo's entire social life has fallen apart in a matter of minutes. *seriously, how can Tomo be so entirely blur not to notice all these emo feelings around him that are hinted/directed straight towards him? Tomo, you retard*

    Good times.

    Misao emos on a cliff.

And then there is a flashback that I think maybe Tomo and Misao are both having? It's really unclear on that. Anyway it is the two of them at the beach when they're little.Misao lost a shell and Tomo picks out a new one for her and she's happy again. Then as they walk over to where their parents are, Tomo promises he'll be there for her forever, and Misao then vows that she'll be Tomo's bride when she grows up. It's kind of cute except for the part where we know at 14-ish she still wants to stick to that vow. Yeah I know they're not blood related but it's still weird okay? Tomo ponders all this in the shower and probably wishes all this awkward love triangle stuff would go away so he could just box already. Now, this is where I'm not ENTIRELY sure is going on, but here's what I've got. Misao is kicking around on the roof when Arisa shows up. They talk about what happened, and what I think goes down is that Misao starts to question what she really wants her relationship to Tomo to be. Arisa says something to the extent that anything can happen down the road if you're just lovers or whatever, but family bonds are a lot stronger. And I guess this is where she starts to turn around? Yeah, considering this is a major plot point, they coulda made her motivation more clear. But I guess that's what I get for only understanding about half of what they say! Sometimes you miss the important half. So, pretty much what happens next is Misao sees Yoshiki while she's walking home and they hang out for a bit and it's weird? Misao says she hasn't seen Tomo since the fight, really, 'cos he gets home late and leaves early. Yoshiki hasn't spoken with him, either. Then they chill out and spill their guts to each other. Yeah I don't get it either. Misao admits that she was jealous of Yoshiki and Tomo's friendship 'cos Tomo seemed to care about Yoshiki more than her or something, and Yoshiki tells her she's wrong, and then tells a story about how he's a spaz who gets hit by stuff this one time while he was playing in the park with Tomo he was in a traffic accident and hurt his leg, and Tomo blames himself so that's the only reason he's so kind to Yoshiki. Then Misao reassures him that he's important to Tomo and everything's shiny. So! Back at home, Misao decides to give Yoshiki's charm back to Tomo. Yaaaay she's really stopped being a brat I'm happy!Meanwhile, Yoshiki sees a contest being held in one of his photography magazines.
Hmmmmm maybe that will play a role in something??

Next day! THE BIG MATCH. Takumi is all by himself in the locker room, warming up. and then here's where Yoshiki and Misao show up to show their undying support *awwww*Tomo is glad to see them, and whips out the charm that Misao returned to him.The music rises. Tomo stands framed in the light from the hall. Pumps himself for the match. Tension! Excitement! Go Tomo! Aaaaaand then the credits roll. WHAT?!Never fear, guys. It's not actually over! I mean who puts the credits at the END of the movie nowadays? It's fashionable to put them five minutes BEFORE the end so people actually have to read them. So! After we, of course, see Tomo with his shiny certificate of winning-ness (or that's what I assume it is). Group photo! Then Misao takes a pic of Tomo and Yoshiki. Then tells them to get closer. So basically she goes from being a love rival to a yaoi fangirl overnight. Then they do that flirty-joking thing they do so well, and Misao's finally okay with it! Yaaay! And look who got up the courage to enter his picture in the photography contest an' netted himself top prize? *yep, it's one of those smexy pics of Takumi after he's finished boxing and is all sweaty n this time he's shirtless *yay for Takumi's hotness !!! ** And that's the end.

    Really.

...yeah, it wasn't a horribly emo ending like BOYS LOVE, but, uhh.....

    Where's the gay, guys?

    Seriously.

    So, my thoughts:

It's a cute movie overall, and Takumi was delicious in his nummy casual clothing, but once again the BL angle was played up when really nothing actually happened between the two characters. It was just a whole whack of one-sided love that went nowhere and kind of left you going "that's it? They just go on and nothing happens to upset the old status quo except Misao's not perving on Tomo so bad anymore?" Plus the lighting and shaky camera were often cringe-worthy and can't these boys be in movies with half-decent budgets?

Basically I mostly wish the plot went a little further, but it was still a pretty enjoyable movie and Aiba was really good at being a creeper and Takumi was hot which is all I ever cared about in the first place.

    __________________________________________________________________
